Former Peoria fire-medical captain succumbs to cancer

Peoria Fire-Medical Department retired Capt. David Rehnke, 59, succumbed to a 10-year battle with renal cell carcinoma on Jan. 11, 2021.

Capt. Rehnke’s death is considered a line-of-duty death caused by occupational cancer.

He began his work with the department in 1989, was promoted to engineer in 1996, promoted to captain in 2008 and retired in 2015.
