Former Commodore Williams playing Chicken Ranch in Surprise

Don Williams Sr. will be in Surprise with his group Don Williams & Company from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at the Chicken Ranch, 14051 W. Grand Ave.

A well-established name in the world of music, Don Williams Sr. is best known as a member of the Grammy Award winning group The Commodores.

Call 523-248-6628 for reservations. A reservation and dinner are required, as is a $6 cover charge.

A multi-talented artist, Williams takes listeners on a journey of thought and emotions.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Don Williams began his career at age 9. While in elementary school and middle school Don taught himself to play the keyboards, violin, saxophone, flute and bass guitar.

In 1970 while in the military on the U.S.S. Saratoga, Don’s captain discovered he played piano and named him part of the entertainment.

During the summer of 1984 Don was ask to audition with a local group who he was told has a possible recording deal. Don made the audition and went home. 30 minutes later he received a phone call asking him to come back to the audition.

It turned out the audition was for The Legendary Temptations. In 1984 he toured with the Temptations and became the musical director and road manager after one year of a seven-year tour.

From 1999-2002 Don goes went on tour with The Commodores, solidifying his name in history.
