The former boyfriend of an Avondale teen was indicted in her murder this week.
Emilio Rivera, 18, was charged with first-degreem murder, attempted second-degree murder and criminal damage, according to the indictment.
Rivera allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Rhiana Kemplin, on Nov. 8 while she was sleeping in her apartment. He attempted to killer her mother in a different room, but the gun he was using jammed, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Emilio Rivera, 18, was charged with first-degreem murder, attempted second-degree murder and criminal damage, according to the indictment.
Rivera allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Rhiana Kemplin, on Nov. 8 while she was sleeping in her apartment. He attempted to killer her mother in a different room, but the gun he was using jammed, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Rivera was arrested about a week after the shooting.
Investigators also said prior to the shooting Rivera had slashed tires or several cars in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Rivera is being held on $1 million cash bond. A trial is set for July 2026.
