Football turf replacement at Chandler schools pushed back

Basha first, Chandler High last among five field 'turfings'

Replacing the grass on the Chandler Unified School District’s football stadium fields with synthetic turf is going to take more time and be more expensive than initially planned.

District staff initially told the governing board they wanted to replace five of the district’s fields this summer, however that timeline has now been extended considerably.

At its June 28 meeting, the Chandler Unified School District governing board unanimously approved a $2.88 million contract to replace the grass at Basha High School’s Jim Wall Stadium with turf in December, after football season ends. Basha will be the first of its six high schools to receive the new turf.
