It’s a situation many adults and children face in their lives each day. With the number of diagnosed autism cases rising, there’s a good chance that events that don’t bother other people can trigger those with autism.
With that in mind, the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce is working to make Florence an autism certified city,
“There are lots of people around that are on some part of the spectrum and in autism, especially, there are some things that can make a person very uncomfortable and maybe not know it or know it and just not be happy with the surroundings,” said Roger Biede, executive director of the chamber. “It's just a very uncomfortable place. So we can address making it a little bit more welcoming and not only make it welcoming, but also make it easier to work with, make it easier to live and just be a more aware community all the way around.”
