Florence receives $1.2M state grant for public safety upgrades

Florence has been awarded a more than $1.2 million grant from the state to pay for upgrades to the town’s public safety communications equipment.

The grant was announced on Monday, Aug. 7, during a border security event and discussion hosted by Gov. Katie Hobbs in Casa Grande. The grant comes from the Arizona Department of Emergency & Military Affairs’ Border Technology Fund, a press release stated.

”First, let me thank Gov. Hobbs and her staff for having these critical conversations about crime coming from across the border and how it affects our communities,” stated Florence Police Chief Bruce Walls in the release. “It is because of these conversations that Gov. Hobbs has awarded the town of Florence $1.2 million in grant funding to upgrade our dispatch consoles and mobile radios. It is crucial that our first responders can communicate effectively while fighting crime associated with our border

Florence has been awarded a more than $1.2 million grant from the state to pay for upgrades to the town’s public safety communications equipment.

Along with Walls, Florence Vice Mayor Johnie Mendoza, Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice, other area police chiefs and elected officials from around Pinal County were present at Hobbs’ event, the release stated.
