Florence on the hunt again for fire chief

New chief resigned following a hot mic incident during a council meeting

Florence is looking to hire its second fire chief in a year after its latest chief abruptly resigned following an incident at a town council meeting.

Paul Adams resigned on June 23, two days after a council meeting in which he was heard making a profanity laced insult to a member of the public who called into the meeting with a question about property taxes. Adams had called into the meeting as well and had his mic unmuted when he made his comment.

Adams was named fire chief in May after serving four months as interim chief. He had retired from the Avondale Fire Department in 2019. He replaced David Strayer, who retired as Florence’s fire chief in January.
