Like any good library, the Viney Jones Library and Community Center has a variety of ways to enjoy books and programs. But it also offers much more that has made the library the place to be for many residents.
The library has a “Learning Commons/Makerspace” where people of all ages can make a variety of items from jewelry to 3D printed objects. The Makerspace has become so popular that at its Tuesday, Feb. 21 meeting, the Florence Town Council allocated $8,750 so the space could have more and different equipment.
“We have so much demand it’s to the point we are having to make a reservation system so people aren’t waiting in line. They can just come in and use it at their convenience,” said Library Manager Lisa Lewis at the meeting. “If you were at the library this afternoon you would have seen five or six teenage girls making jewelry in our Makerspace and that’s what we want. We want to have more and more people there.”
