Florence Copper successfully harvested its first copper cathode.
It marks the first major new source of copper production in the U.S. in more than a decade from a greenfield operation. Florence Copper’s commercial facilities produce refined LME Grade A copper cathode, according to a release.
“This first cathode represents years of technical work, perseverance and collaboration,” John Mays, general manager of Florence Copper, said in the release. “It marks the beginning of a new chapter not only for Florence Copper, but for U.S. copper production. As we ramp up operations, we are proud to deliver a new domestic source of refined copper metal while creating long-term value for our employees, our community, and the country.”
