Florence avoids losing food bank services

United Food Bank threatened to pull out to the community

By pulling together, the people of Florence have avoided losing the services of a much-needed nonprofit organization.

in June 2020, United Food Bank approached the town to notify staff of its intent to discontinue food distribution because of a lack of participation in Florence, according to a staff report.

Only about 40 food  boxes were distributed each month in the town. From a cost-benefit perspective, it was not worth United Food Bank’s trip from Mesa in a box truck when all expenses were considered.
