The Apache Junction VFW Post No. 7968 Auxiliary will hold an American flag exchange 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14, at VFW Post No. 7968, 250 S. Phelps Drive.
“Bring in your old, worn and torn flag to the post and get a new three-foot-by-five-foot flag. We will give one flag per person for the first 100 flags. We will properly dispose of your old flag,” according to a release.
Flag Day is a celebration of the adoption of the American flag by Continental Congress in the First Flag Resolution of June 14, 1777. Although the 200-year anniversary of this date was celebrated by flying flags on public buildings and holding remembrances in several cities, Flag Day wasn’t officially recognized until President Harry Truman signed it into law in 1949, the release states.
