The mud run is back. The Apache Junction Parks and Recreation team is excited to be live and in-person Oct. 23 with its eighth Fit Families Mud Run.
“Last year may have been mud-less — unless you created it in your own backyard — but this year there will be no shortage on mud and plenty of obstacles to challenge everyone. Our mud run is unique from other themed races as it’s created for all family members to experience the obstacle craze together. From our youngest participant of 18 months to our oldest of 85 years, this is truly an event your family won’t want to miss,” according to a release.
The Fit Families Mud Run gives families an opportunity to participate in such an event without the high level dangers of the mainstream mud runs.
“Many of these runs are of great length. They can cover up to 12 miles with dangerous obstacles such as 8-foot-high-plus climbing walls, barbed wire-covered trenches, running over fire and running through electrical shock obstacles. The obstacles created for the Fit Families Mud Run are age-appropriate in their distances, challenges and safety; the obstacles were designed for maximum mud and minimum danger,” the release states.
This year’s event will be Saturday, Oct. 23, with the first wave starting at 9 a.m. Participants should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their wave time as there is a short walk from the parking lot to the start line. This will also give them time to get checked in, take some pre-mud family photos and store items at a staffed bag check area.
Day of registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on-site at the Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds, 1590 E. Lost Dutchman Blvd. in Apache Junction. Adult prices are $20 at anc.apm.activecommunities.com/apachejunction and $25 on race day. Youth prices are $10.
The Healthy Mason Jar will have beverages and food items available for purchase beginning at 7:30 a.m.
