Octogenarian Betty Shelton is living her best life as she recalls being an alumnus of Motown, going on vacations since retiring from education, and moving to an active-adult community in Surprise.
She has maintained an active lifestyle, enjoying trips and spending time with friends and family while giving back to the community. Shelton was recognized by her close-knit group of friends Nov. 11, at the community where she lives — The Grand — traditionally known as Sun City Grand. She even received an award for her service and contributions.
Shelton was honored for being a founding member of the Grand Connection Social Group, which is a support network for people with similar interests in the African-American experiences and culture within the community and surrounding areas.
