Anyone seeing fireworks in the sky ahead of New Year’s Eve is probably seeing some illegal ones, local fire officials said.
With the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day a legal chance to let off some fireworks, there’s likely going to be some illegal ones in the mix, said Phoenix fire Capt. Rob McDade.
Tuesday was the first day of the holiday season to light legally purchased fireworks. Residents are allowed to light fireworks from Tuesday, Dec. 26, to Wednesday, Jan. 3, the Phoenix fire captain said.
