Fire danger comes with spark of firework fun

Valley fire officials are reminding residents about the dangers of fireworks as Phoenicians prepare to celebrate on New Year’s Eve this year.

In some areas, brush fires are becoming more prevalent in winter, said Will Brewer, engineer and spokesman at Daisy Mountain Fire Department.

About two weeks ago, fire crews extinguished a brush fire that burned a couple of acres near Seventh Street and Circle Mountain Road. The blaze threatened about five homes and burned down a storage shed, he said. No one was injured.
