Finding real solutions for Arizona’s water problems

OPINION — Rusty Childress is correct that Arizona faces a water crisis, and that no solution exists other than to use a lot less water and to stop growth.

At least Democrats like Gov Katie Hobbs have a plan to establish more water management districts to monitor and then restrict pumping, which is the only way to prevent depletion. Sadly, rural Republicans criticize her and oppose it, but they offer no solutions despite letting this problem fester while in power the previous 50 years.

Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes also negotiated her first deal with a large agricultural user to pump less water, so that small farmers and residents don't lose their well water, under the public nuisance standard.
