Financially struggling school district sells land to city of Phoenix for affordable housing

The city of Phoenix is buying land from two local school districts to help pay off the districts’ debt and so the city can build 264 affordable housing units on the land.

One of the districts, the Isaac Elementary School District, is facing grave financial issues.

“This is an exciting win-win where we are able to move forward with building much needed housing and help one of our important school districts in the city in a time of their financial need,” Mayor Kate Gallego said ahead of the unanimous city council vote for one of the land sales last week.
