Financial, performance audits sought of Pinal County Sheriff’s Office

Posted

The following was read at the Wednesday, Dec. 3 meeting of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors:

Mr. Chairman,

Pinal County’s Sheriff’s Office continues to produce sheriffs who embarrass county residents with blatant abuse of their authority and walk away without accountability.

Sheriff Paul Babeu comes to mind with his fervent investigation of so-called illegal immigrants, until the public learned that one young male immigrant was being threatened for deportation by the sheriff if he went public about their romantic relationship.

The succeeding Sheriff Mark Lamb, likewise, completed his term escaping any legal consequences for committing perjury on Arizona Corporation Commission documents lying about not experiencing personal bankruptcy — a violation that went unprosecuted because the statute of limitations on his felony was allowed to run out.

Current Sheriff Ross Teeple appears on track to establish his own brand of notoriety by avoiding transparency and accountability.

Unanswered questions about his exploiting militarized law enforcement tactics in residential neighborhoods, plus questions about costly I-10 saturation patrols for minor civil traffic violations in search of sex trafficking and drug smuggling while slavishly serving the presidential protector of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and pardoner of drug trafficker Honduran ex-president Juan Hernandez. A unique role of our county’s law enforcer doing the bidding of our country’s chief law violator while pursuing deportation of vulnerable desert-crossing migrants despite the moral imperative of welcoming the stranger among us. Information to us thanks to an Arizona newspaper and others of the free press.

In the face of this reality, the Board of Supervisors must fulfill its fiduciary responsibility to ensure Pinal County funds are being used to benefit the county and not misused by a county official pursuing the immoral agenda of the convicted felon sitting in the White House seeking to transform our democratic multi-ethnic secular society to a white nationalist hollowed out Christian autocracy.

These undeniable issues are surely within the jurisdiction and authority of this board.

It is long past time for financial and performance audits of the largest user of Pinal County’s budget. Why do you fear these audits?

To paraphrase a MAGA idol, I challenge you to prove me wrong.
