Fiesta Bowl announces board appointments

Steven Leach, Partner at Jones, Skelton & Hochuli, PLC in Phoenix, was recently elected to serve a two-year term as Chairman of the Board of the Fiesta Bowl, it was announced.

The college bowl games plays annually at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

"We are very fortunate to have Steve as our Chairman of the Board," said Mike  Nealy, Fiesta Bowl executive director. "He has been a wonderful asset to the bowl for many years and will be a great leader as we continue to make a difference throughout the State of Arizona."

Mr. Leach first joined the Fiesta Bowl Organization as a volunteer in 2004, became a Yellow Jacket Committee member in 2006 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2011. His dedication to the organization has earned him countless leadership roles and recognition, including Yellow Jacket Committee Rookie of the Year and Yellow Jacket Committee chair, as well as chair of the Board's Nominating and Governance Committee and member of the Executive Committee.

As chairman, Mr. Leach will oversee the governance of the Board, helping lead and promote the nonprofit organization and its extensive charitable giving efforts, statewide community events and two bowl games - the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl and the Cactus Bowl.

"The Fiesta Bowl has proudly served Arizona since its inception in 1971, and countless individuals have worked tirelessly over the years to create a premier organization that provides great entertainment to its guests along with significant economic impact and charitable giving to the Arizona community," said Mr. Leach. "I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue to be part of the Fiesta Bowl family."

Mr. Leach grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, and obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa. He moved to Phoenix in 1987 and began his 30-year legal career representing employers in employment law-related matters. He and his wife, Beth, have four children - Drew, Renee, Grady and Connor.

Other officers on the 2017-2019 Fiesta Bowl Executive Board include:

  • Patrick Barkley, Chair-Elect

  • Mike Hecomovich, Immediate Past Chair

  • Randy Norton, Treasurer

  • Gary Hanson, Secretary (*2017-2018)


In addition to the new Executive Board appointments, the Fiesta Bowl announced the addition of four new members to the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors. Tim Brown, Dr. Javier Cárdenas, Tom O'Malley and Dawn Rogers will join the organization's governing body this year.

Tim Brown, the 2015-2016 Yellow Jacket Committee Chair, is the president and chief executive officer for Donor Network of Arizona. Dr. Javier Cárdenas is director of the Barrow Concussion and Brain Injury Center, as well as the director of the Barrow Concussion Network. Tom O'Malley is chief operating officer and general counsel for JDM Partners. Dawn Rogers is executive director and CEO of the 2017 Phoenix Final Four.
