Feds should have informed Surprise about ICE facility

OPINION — Our quiet suburban city has suddenly become the center of attention — for all the wrong reasons.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has decided to place a detention center in an existing warehouse near Sweetwater Avenue and Dysart Road. Reports indicate it could house up to 1,500 detainees.

Regardless of where you fall on immigration policy, it’s fair to say many residents are uneasy about what this means for our community.
