Feds offer Surprise leaders info on ICE detention center

City to detail discussions at April 7 city council meeting

The city of Surprise received more clarity from federal officials on the planned ICE facility that will open in the city sometime this year.

Mayor Kevin Sartor, City Manager Andrea Davis, Surprise councilmembers and Rep. Paul Gosar, R-District 9, all met with leadership from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Washington, D.C., regarding the proposed processing center.

Calling the March 19 meeting “productive,” the city plans to detail what was discussed with federal officials during the April 7 city council meeting.
