Federal probe into Zipps restaurants leads to illegal employment, ID fraud charges

A 36-year-old man who federal authorities say was responsible for hiring kitchen staff for all Arizona Zipps locations faces several charges following numerous raids this week.

Three employees also were charged as the federal investigation continues, according to a release from the Arizona district of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Special agents with Homeland Security Investigations and IRS-Criminal Investigation executed federal search warrants at 14 Zipps restaurants in the Phoenix area on Jan. 26 after a year-long probe “into unlawful employment of aliens, identity theft and document fraud,” the release stated.
