Feds’ Disney cruise bust a harsh wake-up for parents

Predators seek out environments where families naturally lower their guard, potentially turning an outing into a nightmare

OPINION — Every week brings another horrifying reminder that predators are still finding access to our kids, whether it's online or even real-life spaces explicitly marketed directly to families.

The recent federal operation involving crew members aboard cruise ships, including a Disney cruise vessel, should remind every parent of one basic truth: You cannot outsource your child’s safety. 

According to reports, federal agents detained foreign nationals connected to child sexual-exploitation-material investigations after inspections in San Diego. For many parents, a family cruise represents one of the safest environments imaginable: controlled access, organized activities, children's clubs, family entertainment, security personnel and globally recognized child-friendly brands.
