A Glendale man faces multiple counts of child abuse and kidnapping on accusations he abused his son.
Jorge Elias, 28, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 18 in Phoenix.
Glendale police said an officer had responded to a report of child abuse after an 8-year-old boy told a school official that his father had allegedly punched him before he came to school.
Police said the boy was having a hard time walking while carrying trays. A social worker also noted difficulty breathing and escorted the boy to the nurse’s office.
Police noted scrapes to the boy’s chin, bruising on his back and chest, swelling in his genitals, a broken rib and possible internal bleeding in his stomach.
The boy underwent surgery, according to records.
Police learned there was an open case for abuse from Nov. 18, when the boy told a counselor that he had difficulty sitting after his father spanked him.
Mr. Elias was interviewed and admitted to hitting his son. He claimed he got upset when his son was cleaning his room and asked where a sock went. He also said his son was fighting with him about having to clean the room. Mr. Elias then allegedly hit his son about six times, records state.
Mr. Elias also admitted to hitting his son in the genitals during the November incident.
He said his son knew how to press his buttons and was always doing something disgusting, records state. Police were told Mr. Elias also hit his son because he looked like his mother.
Mr. Elias was booked into jail in lieu of a $500,00 bond.
