Phoenix detectives are investigating an incident that landed a father in jail after four of  his children were found in a hot car in the middle of the afternoon.

Police officers went to a home near 24th and Madison streets at about 3:40 p.m. July 24 after someone called about several children left in a car.

Officers found the children in the car, which was turned off with the windows rolled up, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The officers were able to get the children out of the car, gave them water and put them into a patrol Tahoe with the air conditioning running.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel and treated the children. Their temperatures were near 100 degrees, and they were taken to a hospital. All are expected to recover, the release stated.

The temperature in the car was about 125, police said.

Officers followed up, attempting to find the owner of the car and person responsible for the children.

They contacted the father of the children, 38-year-old Ascencio Largo, inside of a nearby business. He had entered the business just short of an hour prior to the officers’ arrival, police said.

Largo was arrested and booked on eight felonies. The Department of Child Safety was contacted and is conducting a separate investigation, police said.
