Farmworkers Day: Phoenix officials rename Cesar Chavez Day

Other changes initiated to remove Chavez's name from city facilities

Phoenix City Council on Wednesday officially renamed the city’s March 31 holiday from Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day.

City officials signaled the change was coming on March 18, the same day allegations came to light of the labor leader having sexually abused women and girls.

“Today is not an easy day, but it’s something that is necessary,” said Councilmember Betty Guardado.
