Fantasy of Lights parade ushers in holidays, affects downtown Tempe travel

Fantasy of Lights parade ushers in holidays, affects downtown Tempe travel

The Fantasy of Lights Street Parade and tree lighting will kick off the holiday season in Tempe on Friday, but the fun will require drivers to navigate a number of street closures.

The event begins at 4 p.m. Nov. 24, but work on barricades will begin Friday morning, Tempe officials said.

From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.:

• Seventh Street will be closed in both directions between Mill and Maple avenues.

• Maple Avenue will be closed in both directions between Sixth and Seventh streets.

• Third Street will be closed in both directions between Ash and Mill avenues.

From noon to 10 p.m.:

• Mill Avenue will be closed in both directions between University Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

• Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh streets will be closed in both directions at Mill Avenue.

•Fifth Street will be closed between Ash and Forest avenues. Local traffic will be able to travel between Forest and Mill avenues.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m., and tree lighting is scheduled for 7 p.m., event organizers said.  There will be live entertainment, Santa photos and snack vendors.
