Family sues Maricopa County Jail for wrongful death

The family of a man who died early in 2021 while in custody of Phoenix Police and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies is suing both, saying those responding didn’t recognize the man had a mental illness.
Akeem Terrell died Jan. 1, 2021, while in custody of Phoenix Police and MCSO.
Terrell, a 31-year-old man from Detroit, had been living in Phoenix for six years before he was arrested after refusing to leave a party on New Year’s Day in 2021.
