Ted Taylor had just sold a tech company he was president of in 2010 and found himself in between jobs when his pastor got a hold of him.
“He said, ‘Ted you’ve been volunteering for Family Promise (of Greater Phoenix) for three years,’” Taylor said. “I’m chairman of the board, our executive director’s stepping down and I think you should do this. I said, what? First, I don’t know anything about nonprofits. I don’t have any kids and I don’t know how to work with women.”
Family Promise of Greater Phoenix is a Scottsdale-based nonprofit that puts up families experiencing homelessness over night mainly by working with local congregations (churches and synagogues) to let them sleep in their facilities.
