Family found right spot for LuLu's Taco Shop

Aviles family picked Gilbert to serve authentic tacos for over 30 years

When LuLu and Jose Aviles decided to open a taco restaurant, the couple struggled with location. Jose wanted to open in Mexico, while LuLu wanted to stay in America.

“I asked him, ‘Do you want to get profit in pesos or dollars?’ LuLu said. “He said, ‘I’m not dumb. I want dollars.’”

LuLu moved to America from Mexico in 1971. After meeting and marrying Jose, the couple began saving their money. Thirteen years later, the two had saved $50,000 and decided it was time to make their mark in Gilbert.
