Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a family fight in north Phoenix Wednesday night that left one man dead, one in the hospital, and another behind bars.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 7:35 p.m. Oct. 15 at a home near 19th Street and Bell Road. When officers arrived, they found a teenage male who had a gunshot wound, and a man lying on the road also suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a release.

Witnesses told officers the suspect, 28-year-old Milad Rafie, left the area before police arrived, the release stated. The fire department responded and transported the teenager to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

They also treated the man on the roadway, 59-year-old Najbulla Rafie, but determined he died on scene from his injuries.

As officers were securing the area, Milad came back to the scene on foot and gave himself up to officers, according to the release.

Homicide detectives responded and continued the investigation. Preliminary information, according to the release, said Milad got into an argument with family members inside their home. The argument escalated to the point where Milad pulled out a firearm and shot his teenage brother, according to the release.

Milad then went outside and shot his stepfather Rafie. Milad left on foot but came back to the scene approximately 20 minutes later, according to the release.

Milad was booked on one count of second-degree murder and additional felonies, according to the release.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to process evidence.
