False narratives concerning killings in Minnesota

OPINION — Chris Brant’s recent letter reads as an attempt to justify ICE’s recent killing of two Minneapolis residents. As a Minneapolis area resident, wintering in Fountain Hills, I feel compelled to respond to this uninformed letter.

The Minnesota Star Tribune and the New York Times have both provided extensive coverage of these killings, including second-by-second analyses of the multiple videos of the killings.

Brant asserts that the first ICE homicide victim, Renee Good, “reportedly drove her car into an ICE agent enough to cause internal bleeding.” The videos do not support this. The ICE agent had positioned himself in front of Good’s car but stepped aside as she steered away from him. He fired the first shot through the lower corner of the windshield and the next two shots through the open driver’s side window as her car passed by him.
