Facing the Pandemic: Local businesses grapple with economic turmoil

Uneven regulations, funding hamper moving forward

While small businesses have been battered by the coronavirus pandemic this year, the pain inflicted on those in various Maricopa County cities appears ready to extend well into 2021.

With a myriad closures and restrictions stretching back to March, many local businesses have struggled to find an equilibrium as the overall economic pain has continued. There are no quick answers for a once-in-a-lifetime event that was difficult at best to develop a plan to deal with, according to local business leaders.

“I think the small businesses have to come up with creative solutions to navigate this,” said Jess Roman, CEO of the Arizona Small Business Association.
