At this point, nothing is going to faze a young Campo Verde softball team that played one of the state’s toughest schedules and is starting to punch back in the playoffs.
Take Thursday’s elimination game at No. 5 seed Centennial. Campo Verde was one strike away from the win, only to walk in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior pitcher Addyson Armstrong regrouped and got a line drive out to force extra innings. In the top of the eighth, sophomore Chloe Singer smacked a three-run homer to left field and No. 16 Campo Verde (13-19) won 6-2 to continue its shocking journey to the final six of the 5A playoffs.
