Recently retired Surprise Police Chief Benny Pina is going in a slightly different direction with his next career move.

According to his LinkedIn page, Pina has accepted a job as the director of public safety partnerships and program support at Cleary University, a private university in Livingston, Michigan, that’s focused on business education.

It has a student enrollment of nearly 600 and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, like Ottawa University-Arizona in Surprise.

On LinkedIn, Pina said he is available to “mentor and assist law enforcement officers with transferring their law enforcement training and life experience into college credits.”

Pina will help students earn a bachelor's of business administration degree with a concentration in organizational leadership, cybersecurity and project management.

The school’s offerings also includes a master's of business administration in executive leadership as well as a master's of science in culture, change and leadership.

Pina had been in law enforcement in the Valley since 1989 and spend nearly four years as Surprise’s chief until he retired this spring.
