Eviction filings soar in Phoenix metro as rent dips

Maricopa County eviction filings jumped by 21% in 2023 — the fastest pace on record, according to Maricopa County Justice Courts.

It’s a trend that began as the economy emerged from pandemic lockdowns and inflation skyrocketed. So far, filings show little sign of slowing and in fact look like they are picking up.

In January, there were 8,025 eviction filings in Maricopa County, said Scott Davis, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Justice Courts. Last year’s 83,236 eviction filings fell 451 cases short for the most evictions in a calendar year.
