Estrella Mountain Community College has opened registration for the fall 2026 semester of its Natural Gas Program, an instructional partnership with Southwest Gas.

The program provides technical coursework for individuals preparing for employment in the utility and pipeline construction industries, serving as an option for students seeking vocational paths outside of standard four-year degree programs.

Instruction is conducted by Southwest Gas personnel using tools and procedures standard to the field. For the upcoming semester, the curriculum consists of two evening courses on Natural Gas:

  • Pipeline Operations: Covers pipeline operations, damage prevention, and emergency response.
  • Pipe Joiner: Covers heat fusion, pipefitting, and compression techniques.

Classes are scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to accommodate non-traditional students and adult learners.

"The program reflects a commitment to creating pathways into careers for students, while equipping them with the skills to support infrastructure," said Albert Taylor, Vice President of Human Resources for Southwest Gas.

Beyond technical training, the coursework introduces students to auxiliary roles within the field, including infrastructure maintenance, pipeline construction, engineering support, and safety management. Graduates are positioned to apply for field positions with utility providers and regional contractors.
