EPCOR rebate checks for Sun City condo residents

The Mission of the Sun City Community Assistance Network is to, “Connect people with resources to enhance their standard of living.”

In other words, Sun City CAN helps people save money on things like property taxes, income taxes, utilities, Medicare premiums, prescription drugs and other things.

Many benefits go unclaimed simply because people are unaware that the benefits exist. In an effort to shed light on some of the help that is available to low-income seniors, I will write a guest commentary each month about a different senior help program.

Below is a listing of benefits available for low-income seniors that some may not realize are available.

Water rebates

Sun City low-income condo residents may be eligible to receive a check for $120 every six month from EPCOR Water.

Prior to 2010, Sun City low-income residents who lived in condos could not participate in the local water company’s low-income discount program because the water and sewer bills were paid by the condo association, not by the resident. Sun City Community Assistance Network brought this to the attention of the Arizona Corporation Commission and a new program was created for condo and apartment dwellers.

To be eligible for the program you must live in a condo or an apartment in Sun City or Youngtown. Your monthly income must be less than $2,465 (single) or $3,287 (two person). There is no age restriction on this program. There are currently more than 300 households enrolled. Checks are mailed out in May and November.

If you think you are eligible for the condo water rebate program, call Sun City CAN and make an appointment to meet with one of the benefits assistance counselors. They will provide the application forms and assistance in filling them out. The CAN phone number is 623-933-7530.

The CAN office is located at 10195  W. Coggins Drive in Sun City.
