EPA ‘forever chemical’ water remediation decision looms amid water scarcity 

Southwest Valley residents and other stakeholders are facing concerns over water contamination treatment of a forever chemical amid the Environmental Protection Agency’s forthcoming decision on how to approach remediation of the harmful agent that has seeped into the groundwaters around Luke Air Force Base.

The chemical, known as polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS, is considered a “forever chemical” that doesn’t break down over time and can build up in the environment and blood of humans.

West Valley residents learned in recent years the chemical has been detected around Luke Air Force Base and other areas that used it as a firefighting agent.
