ELECTION PROFILE

The Associated Press will tabulate and report results for 78 races, including: U.S. House, governor, secretary of state, treasurer, attorney general, school superintendent, mine inspector, corporation commissioner, state Senate, state House, and eight statewide ballot measures.

AP plans to provide the following vote types for all counties in Arizona: Election Day in-person, provisional and advance total. Vote type breakouts may change due to availability from election officials.

Candidates and races included in early testing are not final, since the filing deadline for judicial officers (for retention) and write-in candidates is not until Sept. 4.

ANOMALIES

AP will use proportional precincts, whereby the percentage of precincts reporting in a county will represent our estimate of the percentage of the vote reported at that time. That estimate can change on election night as we get more information, resulting in occasional fluctuations in the percentage of precincts reporting.

Polls close at 7 p.m. local time. The state does not release results until one hour after all polls close.

There will be two winners in the corporation commissioner race and each state House race.

WRITE-INS

AP will tabulate write-ins on election night if uniformly available. Write-in ballots will otherwise be included in the tabulation at certification. Some states do not allow write-ins in all elections.

TESTING INFORMATION

General election testing begins Thursday, Aug. 13.

The downloadable test schedule is available and updated on the AP Customer Zone.

AP will publish the first set of “zeros” in the AP Elections API on Aug. 5. This release will include all 50 states and D.C.

The initial “zeros” release, and the tests that follow, will include all known information, including candidate detail in states with completed primaries. In states with primaries that have not yet concluded, AP will use placeholder candidates “Ghost Republican” and “Ghost Democrat” in national races.

AP will release actual candidate data, and state and local races, as state primaries are completed and races are resolved.

Test results are created electronically to test the accuracy of the election night reporting system. They should not be broadcast, published, replicated or posted on websites.

Testing for embeddable visuals will start in early September.

ELECTION DAY

Race calls: Race calls will be made during testing except on the day of the final test.

End of tabulation: AP will advise when certified results are posted.

DELIVERY NOTES

API: During testing, INCLUDE resultstype=t (for test results) in your query. If resultstype=t is not included, NO VOTES will be returned. For actual data, INCLUDE resultstype=l (live results) or resultstype=b (includes certified results as soon as they are available). If resultstype=l or resultstype=b is not included, NO VOTES will be returned on Election Day.

Embeddable AP Newsroom Visuals: Layouts will not display test data outside of AP Newsroom; zeros will be visible if they are posted until polls close Election Day. During customer testing sessions, layouts with test results can be previewed in the Your Layouts page. Please note you will need to self-register domains where you wish to publish embeddable layouts. Without this, your layouts WILL NOT RENDER/WILL BE BLANK on Election Day. Any domain you register will include its subdirectories.
