Elected officials asking Social Security Administration to not move AJ office to Gilbert

Elected officials from the city, county and the U.S. House of Representatives are asking federal officials to not move the Apache Junction Social Security Administration Office at 253 W. Superstition Blvd. to the town of Gilbert.

The mayor of Apache Junction recently issued a proclamation expressing his displeasure, stating he found “the Social Security’s decision to move the facilities out of Apache Junction egregious to the population it is meant to serve, a gross neglect and disservice for our veterans and retirement community.”

The SSA recently entered a short-term lease intended to allow the agency more time to consider moving, Mayor Chip Wilson said at a recent Apache Junction City Council meeting.
