Elder abuse often goes unreported in communities

Experts: individuals should seek out help

The problem of elder abuse exists in senior communities and often people can be unaware they are being abused.

The issue was highlighted last week when a Sun City West man shot his son who was trying to break into the parents' home.

Stacey Gandy, clinical assistant professor with the Arizona State University School of Social Work, said this type of elder abuse happens more frequently than is talked about and often goes unreported for various reasons.
