El Mirage police arrested a man who led officers on a chase that ended in Avondale on Thursday, according to a spokesman.

The incident occurred sometime before 2 p.m. Jan. 4, when the El Mirage Police Department responded to the area of 12200 West Larkspur Road to investigate a custodial interference.

Police were told that a man had taken custody of a boy and left the scene. The man was reported to have made threats to harm the child, Sgt. Chris Culp stated in an email.

While still in the area, officers witnessed the man in a vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect fled from officers, who then pursued the man until he eventually stopped at Dysart and Van Buren roads, about 11.5 miles south from the initial incident.

Police took the man into custody and recovered the boy. The man was found to have an outstanding felony warrant.

The man and the child did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
