El Mirage pharmacy to start drive-thru testing for COVID-19

A pharmacy in El Mirage will start drive-thru only testing for COVID-19, according to a release from the city.

Walgreens, 15385 N. Dysart Road, southeast corner of Dysart and Greenway roads, was chosen to start testing Friday.  This location was chosen to be the only Walgreens COVID-19 drive-thru testing location in Maricopa County.

The new testing site will utilize Abbott’s new ID NOW COVID-19 test and individuals will receive results in about 24 hours, the release states. This location was finalized in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and state and local leaders.

“The City of El Mirage is grateful to work with our community partners at Walgreens during this unprecedented time," Mayor Alexis Hermosillo stated. "This is a meaningful step towards keeping our community safe and healthy, and I am pleased that our City is working to expand opportunities for testing.  I hope this opportunity will significantly help communities throughout the Valley overcome the health crisis we are facing.”

Testing at the location is by appointment only. In order to be eligible to receive a test, patients must first complete an online health assessment to determine eligibility criteria established by the CDC and then schedule an appointment at Walgreens.com/findcare.

“Walgreens remains committed to working with federal, state and local governments, as well as industry partners to meet the needs of the communities we serve across the country during the pandemic,” stated Richard Ashworth, Walgreens president. “We’re continuing to do everything we can, both with our own resources and also by partnering with others, to serve as an access point within the community for COVID-19 testing. Opening our first drive-thru testing location last month has allowed us to quickly learn and develop an efficient and scalable process, and we’re pleased to be working with Abbott to help accelerate our efforts, and to enable quick results for those being tested.”
