El Chicano is known nationwide and across generations for incorporating rock, funk, soul, blues, jazz and salsa sounds into their music, often charting simultaneously in several music categories since 1969. El Chicano grew out of the burgeoning Latino music scene in the streets of east Los Angeles, California. Originally known as The VIPs and founded by Freddie Sanchez, Chicano is the most active and successful Latino rock band to come from L.A. The band has earned five gold records, recorded 12 albums and has had their songs included in more than 100 compilation releases.

El Chicano grew out of the burgeoning Latino music scene in the streets of east Los Angeles, California. Opening for El Chicano at Somos Peoria is Latin Breed and Mariachi Divas.
Latin Breed is from the southside of San Antonio, Texas and, in the last 53 years, has become one of the most popular Tejano bands in the United States. The 10-piece band mixes Latin, big band, jazz and R&B sounds to create their distinctive sound.
Mariachi Divas is an all-female band known for its eclectic array of music ranging from mariachi classics to jazz and pop. Their music is an elegant approach to the mariachi tradition, and therefore, they have been the official mariachi band of the Disneyland Resort since 2003.
“Securing El Chicano, Latin Breed and Mariachi Divas for Somos Peoria this year is just the beginning of a great event,” said Ray Arvizu, with Arvizu Advertising. “We are honored to partner with the city of Peoria to bring the community together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.”
In addition to the live music at Somos Peoria, there will be a lowrider car show, Ballet Folklorico performances, live mural painting from Carlos Rivas, Luche Libre, traditional food and beverages, a free kid zone with rides, face painting, games, and more. General admission is $10 and VIP tickets are available for $35.
