Statton, 85 SUN CITY WEST - Edward Clarence Statton passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Sun City West on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015. Ed was born on Jan. 23, 1930, the youngest of six children of Roy and Emma Statton in Boone, Iowa, where he graduated from Boone High School in 1948. He attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1955 and immediately entered the Navy after having been in training with the Navy in Pensacola, Fla. He flew with the PT48 squadron in Japan during the Koren War. It was while on assignment to the Intelligence School in Washington, DC that he met and married his first wife, Jean (O'Daniel) Statton. He later moved his wife and young daughter Suzanne to Iowa City, Iowa where he enrolled in law school at Iowa University. After the sudden loss of his wife, Ed graduated law school and met and married his second wife, Claire (Murphey) Statton. After a short time spent practicing law in Omaha, Nebraska, Ed moved his family to Oak Park, Illinois where he raised his family and practiced law as a sole practitioner. Ed continued with the Navy Reserves and retired as a Commander in 1977. A number of years following his wife Claire's death in 1994, Ed surprisingly and joyously reconnected with his college sweetheart, Dorothy Widman and they were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Aug. 29, 1999. Ed and his wife, Dorothy began to split their time between Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Phoenix. Ed was a beloved elder and usher at his church, The Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially of the Chicago and Iowa-based professional and college teams, enjoyed poker, and traveling with his wife to far off and often exotic places. He will be deeply missed by the people in his life. Ed is survived by his wife of 15 years, Dorothy Statton; daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Donovan, Amy Statton, Anne Statton, Laurie (Bill) McCarthy, Kersti (Fred) Azar; grandchildren, Erin (David) Hablutzel, Analise Donovan, Samantha Donovan, Shannon (Jason) Swanson, Patrick McCarthy, Kate Azar, Lauren Azar; great-grandson, Cole Hablutzel; siblings, Steve (Marion) Statton and Charles (Linda) Statton. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and advocate to so many people in his life. Memorial services are scheduled for Jan. 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Crown of Life Lutheran Church, Sun City West. Cremains will be returned to Iowa in Spring for burial at St. John's Lutheran cemetary near Newhall, Iowa.
