Hungry? The 3rd Annual Macayo’s Mexican Food Chimi Challenge Championship is under way.
The restaurant will host the championship on Saturday, Sept. 28 that dares guests to eat their monstrous five-pound chimi in 20 minutes or less in the hopes of being crowned the 2024 Chimi Champion. The chimi is filled with a choice of shredded beef, shredded chicken or ground beef mixed with Mexican rice and refried beans and topped with red enchilada sauce, Baja sauce, fire-roasted tomatillo sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, mixed cheese and jack cheese.
The qualifying rounds to reach the championship are going on now through Aug. 31 at all Macacyo’s locations in Ahwatukee, at ASU in Tempe, Avondale, Chandler, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Mesa, Queen Creek, Scottsdale and Surprise. The top contestant from each location will qualify for the Chimi Challenge Championship.
