East Valley town outlines major parks infrastructure needs as funding gaps grow

Gilbert officials are facing a growing list of parks and recreation capital projects as aging infrastructure, field shortages and unmet demand converge with limited funding options.

The town has more than $1.48 billion in parks and recreation capital projects spread across 77 initiatives, many of which are either unfunded or only partially funded, according to officials.

Gilbert Parks Manager Kylie Sorensen said parks infrastructure plays a broader role in the town’s goals, tying amenities to economic development, community identity and long-term livability.
