East Valley town advances $99M in park construction

Nearly $100 million in additional construction is moving forward at two of Gilbert’s largest parks after town council approved contracts Sept. 15 for the second phases of Desert Sky Park and Gilbert Regional Park.

The council voted 5-2 on each of the two items, approving a $43.46 million construction package at Desert Sky Park and a $55.65 million package at Gilbert Regional Park. Together, the contracts total about $99.1 million.

Council members Monte Lyons and Jim Torgeson were the dissenting votes but did not disclose a reason. Mayor Scott Anderson expressed surprise that was dissent after staff followed council's direction on the matter.
