East Valley school leaders debate land acknowledgement

An agenda item presented only as an information item turned out to be a main focus of the Chandler Unified Governing Board’s Aug. 19 meeting.

A land acknowledgement statement about the indigenous heritage in what’s now the Chandler area was on the Aug. 19 agenda as an announcement, pointing out that a statement would be included as part of every board meeting, beginning with the planned Sept. 9 regular meeting.

The land acknowledgement was also to be included in all district graduation ceremony programs moving forward.
